Here’s a fun and easy rocking tent paper craft tutorial for your next camping-themed craft session! This cute craft not only celebrates the great outdoors but also has an entertaining element—it rocks back and forth! Perfect for campers of all ages, this project uses simple materials like construction paper and glue sticks. Let’s get crafting!
Materials:
- Construction paper (various colors)
- Glue stick
- Scissors
Cutting the shapes:
- Follow our examples in the pictures below to sketch and cut out the necessary shapes for this craft.
How to Assemble the Pieces:
- Create the Base:
- Start by cutting a large circle out of black construction paper. This will be the base of your tent scene. The bottom of the semicircle will act as the part that rocks back and forth.
- Once cut, fold is in half and set it aside.
- Make the Tent:
- For the tent, check out the blue shapes above in our example. The larger, darker blue shape is the main tent shape. The light blue is the background for the tent interior and the 2 dark blue rectangles are the top of the tent.
- Cut a slit from the bottom of the dark blue large tent shape from the middle of the bottom, about 3/4 of the way towards the top. Fold the outer edges of each side of the slit outward slightly to create dimension.
- Glue the light blue background to the back of the tent’s front.
- Glue the 2 blue rectangles in a criss-cross shape to the top of the tent.
- Glue the tent to the top flat/folded side of the black folded circle.
- Add the Trees:
- To add the trees around your tent, use green and yellow construction paper (or any color you prefer). Cut out two different sizes of pine trees—one tall and one short.
- Use a brown strip for the trunk of each tree and glue the trees to either side of your tent. Place one tree on either side of the tent.
- Build the Campfire:
- For the campfire, cut out a small flame shape from orange construction paper.
- Create the logs for your campfire by cutting out two thin strips from brown paper and crossing them in an “X” shape at the bottom of the flame.
- Glue the flame to the base first, then glue the logs on top.
- Final Touch:
- Once everything is glued and set in place, gently push the bottom edge of the semicircle to see your tent rock back and forth!
Optional Add-ons:
- Personalize your scene by adding a moon or tiny campers made out of paper.
- Use markers to add details like texture to the trees or stitching on the tent flaps.
Now your rocking tent paper craft is ready to go! This project is a great way to bring the campsite indoors and is sure to keep kids entertained.
