Some call it “the healthier Big Mac.” We just call it “delicious!” Check out this easy recipe to recreate the classic Big Mac burger from McDonald’s into salad form. Ditch the bun and add lots of lettuce – this Big Mac salad bowl is one tasty and filling meal!
We LOVE switching it up a bit when it comes to dinnertime. A hearty, filling salad is always a welcome choice. Salads are typically quick to throw together, which is very much appreciated after a long day of driving or exploring.
The only part of this meal that requires cooking is the ground beef. You can cook the beef up quickly on a skillet at your campsite OR you can prep ahead of time and cook the beef at home. Add it to a food storage container or Ziploc bag and put it in your RV fridge or freezer before you leave home.
We prefer to use cold (or at least, not hot) ground beef on these salads, but you can go with whatever temperature you prefer.
Big Mac Salad
If you have ever had a Big Mac burger from McDonald’s, we can tell you that this salad has a VERY similar taste! The only added ingredient in our salad that is NOT in a Big Mac is the tomato. (We added the tomatoes to give the salad some color and extra nutritional value. Feel free to leave it out if you are going for true, classic Big Mac taste.
The Big Mac burger at McDonald’s has two beef patties, onions, lettuce, cheese, sauce and pickles… on a sesame seed bun. This salad bowl version of the popular burger gained widespread popularity a couple years ago when it was touted as a low-carb alternative to the burger.
Big Mac Sauce is a proprietary secret recipe that belongs to McDonald’s, but Thousand Island Salad Dressing is a pretty close substitute!
